“Sanctuary” is a large scale painting, just over 5ft tall and 4 ft wide, debuted as a window display in my solo exhibition IMPETUS at Mid Main Gallery last year.

Every time I view this piece, I feel overwhelmed with a sense of peace.

For me, this work provides a place of sanctuary for my mind—a safe place to mentally escape the busy, noisy world of my thoughts, routines, and action item list, guiding me gently into a tranquil mental + spiritual state. I feel this when I look at a photograph of this work, which pales in comparison to the feeling of actually experiencing Sanctuary in real life.

Sanctuary commands a feeling of a deep sense of safety and peace as a new born baby slips away to sleep in her mother’s arms.

Art has the power to affect us emotionally, transform the energy of the room and also the energy of a person.

It is my hope that Sanctuary provides a safe haven for those seeking an internal rejuvenation + recovery, before seizing the opportunity of a new day.
